Fellows are expected to present work-in-progress to the public in a weekday evening talk at the Library, and to conduct one or two workshops for Library members. Fellowship applicants “should be working on a project which resonates with the Library’s Franco-American traditions and interests and which might benefit from an extended presence in Paris.” No deadlines and no specific time periods for the fellowship, except that they may not take place in July or August. The Frost Place Museum is open to the public during afternoon hours, but the resident poet has sole use of non-public rooms of the house.  Poet is expected to give public readings at Dartmouth and other regional venues. “The aim of this program is to select a poet who is at an artistic and personal crossroads, comparable to that faced by Robert Frost when he moved to Franconia in 1915, when he was not yet known to a broad public.”  Must have published at least one full-length book of poems to be eligible.

This full-time position (35 hours per week) requires 40 percent of the author’s time be spent on public programs or projects, leaving 60 percent of the work week available for creative writing. Applicants are encouraged to identify innovative ways their residency would foster an appreciation for Canadian writing and involve communities not typically exposed to Canadian literature. The house, where Kogawa lived as a child, stands as a cultural and historical reminder of the expropriation of property that all Canadians of Japanese descent experienced after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, and as a place of healing and reconciliation. Playa

Located on the edge of the Great Basin in a remote, isolated community.  Playa sits at the base of Winter Ridge, which rises to 7,200 feet at the northwestern edge of the Great Basin in south-central Oregon. Directly east of Playa lies Summer Lake, at an elevation of 4,200 feet. The lake is about 20 miles long and five miles wide. It is a playa: a desert lake that is shallow in the winter and usually evaporates by late summer. The Summer Lake basin, abundant with both desert and forest flora and fauna, is cradled between the open sagebrush steppe of eastern Oregon and the rocky, forested mountains of the Fremont-Winema National Forest. Two types of Residency programs: Fellowship Residencies are provided without a fee during two multi-month sessions each year. Virginia Center for the Creative Arts

The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Mt. San Angelo, Box VCCA, Sweet Briar, VA 24595 (804) 946-7236. Approximately 60 miles south of Charlottesville, situated on a 450-acre estate at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Open year-round, accommodates up to 25 artists at a time. VCCA asks residents to contribute to the cost of their residency if able, but financial ability does not figure into the selection process. Voices of the Wilderness

Individual rtists are paired with individual wilderness rangers for a forest stewardship/traveling residency in either the Tongass or Chugach wilderness area. Residencies of 7 to 9 days between June and August. Artists participate in light ranger duties, while having plenty of time to experience the wild heritage of these areas. Artists may travel by sea kayak and camp along fjords. Open to all mediums, including visual artists, writers, musicians, dancers, playwrights, and storytellers. Participants asked to donate one piece of artwork to the Forest Service, and give one public presentation. Voyageurs National Park

Wallace Stegner House

Washington College

Site of the Rose O’Neill Literary House, Washington College hosts readings and lectures, runs a hand-letter press, and publishes an annual journal, Cherry Tree. The O’Neill House also sponsors visiting writers’ fellowships, a Cave Canem Residency, and a series of Summer Poetry Salons.

Wassaic Artist Residency

Woonsocket Neighborhood Development Corporation

Woonsocket is a former mill city located in the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, 20 minutes from Providence. Mill House is located in Bend, OR and offers one two-week residency each Winter for up to 6 writers. At Mill House, each writer lives in a 1 or 2-bedroom cottage (and there is a shared hot tub). For both residencies, there is no fee for lodging, but residents are responsible for their own meals and transportation.
