The Poets’ Country; Candid Climax; Ghost Party: Pauline LeRoy, translated by Indran Amirthanayagam

guanaco viejo o llama nueva,
vuelo de cóndores
que rasantes observan
lo que abajo sucede,
ojos de potente factura
animales, aves, poetas.

The Poets’ Country

I come from the poets’ country
my hair falls in braids of free
circles in rags that open cities
for the aesthetes. I cross
the avenues of those who sing
and from their pavements
rise the noise that claims me.
I am climbing the Cordillera,
I drop its zipper and there it is,
the indigenous of my soul,
speakers of my sheep’s being,
old guanaco or new flame,
condors’ flight the slopes
observe what happens
below, eyes powerful
engineered animals,
birds, poets.

Cándido colofón.

El espacio inquebrantable de tu oído
y mi voz
remece de zumbidos
lo que esconde un ruiseñor.

Pájaro, plumífero y yo,
el relámpago de orquestas que nos unen
son el arpa
de mi cándido colofón.

El retiro de mi especie
al rincón de los mortales
con su marcha indica
que tu vengas hacia mi

y sostengas adherido
uno de tus huecos
en mi ala de ave inusitada
que con su pico caliente ha quemado

tu dedo atrevido,
amigo
de mi oído
y de tu luz de castigo.

Candid Climax

The unbreakable space of your ear
and my voice
shakes with humming
what the nightingale hides.

Bird, feathers, and I
lightning of orchestras that unite us
they are the harp
of my candid climax

The retiring of my species
to the corner of mortals
their way marked out
that you are coming towards me

and you sustain yourself joined
one of your holes
in my wing of an unexpected bird
who with its hot beak has burned

your daring finger,
friend
of my hearing
and your punishing light.

Fiesta de fantasmas.

De mis moléculas tibias vienes a nacer,
desde mis lunas apareces,
luna repartida, hermana.

Ghost Party

From my lukewarm molecules you are born,
from my moons you appear,
moon shared, sister.
From my name I unsheath the sword,
I open it with the care of a fairy,
only to look at it.
At some point should I activate it?
Your faded name will surge on the edge of the road,
a route without pavement nor true definition,
free of pilfering of what is so desired by so many
an emptiness that thinks itself full
I come from a party of ghosts
and no one looked like you.
These came from vengeance, sadness,
of the not understood, but you are different,
there is only one thing between them and you: me.
