Walking tour led by Martin G. Murray, sponsored by the Washington Friends of Walt Whitman and Chrysalis. The tour will visit grave sites associated with the poet and the period, including Union soldiers befriended by Whitman; Colonel Robert Ingersoll, the famous orator and Whitman’s eulogist; Robert Todd Lincoln, son of the beloved President; Quartermaster General Montgomery Meigs, the originator of Arlington Cemetery; and memorials to the Civil War Unknowns and the vanquished Confederate army. Meet inside the Visitor Center, next to the vividly lifelike statue of the Bugler. Rain or shine; no reservation required; no fee.
