Throughout September, the Freer and Sackler Museums present “Pages of Beauty and Madness: Japanese Writers Onscreen,” a series of film adaptations that range from classic novels to modern manga. Sept. 8 at 2:00 pm: “Woman in the Dunes.” Sept. 13 at 7:00 pm: “Sound of the Mountain.” Sept. 20 at 7:00: “A Page of Madness.” Sept. 22 at 2:00 pm: “The Makioka Sisters.” Sept. 27 at 7:00: “The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with the Sea.” Sept. 29 at 2:00 pm: “The Outrage.” Books the films are based on are for sale in the Sackler gift shop. Admission to all movies free. Seating is first-come; doors open 30 minutes before each show.
