The Harlem Renaissance in DC Literary Walking Tour, led by Kim Roberts.  Sponsored by Cedar Lane Unitarian Church Adult Programs.  This walking tour sweeps us back to the U Street neighborhood of the 1920s, a time of blues, jazz, Prohibition, and–amid the oppression of segregation–great aspirations.  Visit former houses, clubs, and businesses of such luminaries as Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Duke Ellington, and Carter G. Woodson.  Tour take 1.5 hours and takes place rain or shine.  Advance registration required.  $20 fee (or $35 for two tours if participants sign up for the Whitman Tour at the same time).  Meets at the plaza in front of 1250 U St. NW (offices of the DC Dept. of Parks and Recreation, across the street from the Lincoln Theater and above the U Street/Cardozo Metro station).  Wear comfortable shoes and carry water.
