The second public program of “A Splendid Wake” will feature three panels: the oral history project from 1981 called “In the Shadow of the Capitol,” documenting African American intellectuals; veterans writing projects such as Warrior Poetry Project; and a panel of spoken word and language poets. Featured poets include: Jim Beall, Derrick Weston Brown, Frederick Foote, Sunil Freeman, Natalie Illum, Magus Magnus, Silvana Straw. “A Splendid Wake” is a wiki on the history of poetry in DC from 1900 to the present. Public programs are planned annually on the vernal equinox. Free admission.
